Countrywide plc, the UK's largest integrated property services group, won the award for ‘Best IPO’ at the EuroWeek EMEA Equity Capital Markets Awards 2012/13.

There was strong competition in the ‘Best IPO’ category but Countrywide plc and MegaFon were crowned joint winners of the award, which is voted for by ECM Banks.

EuroWeek said of the success of Countrywide plc’s IPO and the reasons why the company won: “After market sentiment took a dramatic turn for the better in autumn 2012, there came a series of deals that opened up their markets or sectors. Countrywide had to deal with the difficult conditions and reactions that come with breaking down those barriers.

“Countrywide overcame the perception that the IPO markets would never welcome a UK mid-cap private equity sale to pay down debt. They blazed through barriers and opened up new possibilities for issuers and rewarded their investors handsomely for taking that risk.

“Key to the success was the work put in across the US — not just pilot-fishing, earlier efforts to take the company on a non-deal road show, and not just visiting New York and Boston, but getting out to San Francisco and Los Angeles, too. It meant it could boast true US-to-US sales, with 18% of the deal ending up with those accounts.

Commenting on the award, Jim Clarke, Group Chief Financial Officer, Countrywide plc, said: “We are very proud to receive this accolade which recognises the considerable investment we have made in the transformation of Countrywide and is testament to the support and hard work of everyone involved in the success of our IPO. We were delighted to make the step from private ownership back to a public company, which is helping us continue our growth strategy through further investment in both distribution and quality of service.”
