19,000 sellers across the UK opened their doors to buyers

Some of the UK's leading estate agents have successfully matched up local house buyers and sellers after taking part in what turned out to be the UK's largest ever National Open House Weekend on 12th & 13th May; an event that attracted over 84,000 viewings from prospective homebuyers throughout the UK.

Over 19,000 properties took part in this years' Open House event, with sellers inviting interested buyers to view their properties and a significant proportion of these viewings leading to further enquiries and sales.

The National Open House Weekend is part of a national marketing campaign from the UK's largest property services Group, Countrywide, and followed an exclusive National Property Showcase event, which took place on Thursday 10th May in London. Hundreds attended the event to view properties showcased by leading brands such as Hamptons International, John D. Wood, Taylors, Blundells, Abbotts, Dixons, Gascoigne-Pees and Bairstow Eves.

Property experts, mortgage brokers and specialist conveyancing and surveying advisors were all on hand to offer guidance to the broad range of visitors. These included first-time buyers wanting to get on to the property ladder, as well as buy-to-let investors such as landlords with large portfolios looking to acquire more properties. There were also a number of foreign investors, including a South American Ambassador, who joined the crowds in pursuit of properties for sale in UK property hot spots.

Grenville Turner, Chief Executive of Countrywide, comments:
"The annual National Property Showcase and Open House Weekend is a great example of the innovative initiatives we offer to help our sellers get their properties in front of eager buyers. We've seen many prospective buyers at our branches across the country, who have been interested in our sellers' properties and have availed themselves of the opportunity to view and compare properties easily throughout the weekend.

"The properties which attracted serious buyers were the ones which were priced correctly. That's why it is important for sellers to take advice from an estate agent who has local knowledge of the area, who has good branch coverage in the wider area, as well as a prominent internet and marketing presence.

"The outstanding number of viewings generated by this campaign shows strong demand is there, but many people who are eager to buy face the barriers of deposit affordability and mortgage availability. For those seeking mortgage advice, experienced mortgage consultants from Countrywide Mortgage Services are happy to help by explaining which mortgage products are currently available as well as the differences in rates, terms, incentives and types."
