Countrywide comment of the proposals annouced by the FSA

Countrywide Mortgage Services

Commenting on the today's announcement by the FSA, Alan Snowball, Head of Countrywide's Financial Services Division said ;

"The tighter requirements for proof of income are already making it far harder for the self employed and those on variable incomes to obtain competitive mortgages. Whilst we support any measures that make sure homeowners can afford mortgage repayments and are less likely to default, the FSA proposals will do little to help this category to move up or get onto the property ladder.

"However, applications for self-certified mortgages have been in decline for the last few years as one by one lenders have withdrawn from self-certified lending. This year, over 700 Countrywide Mortgage Consultants operating across the UK have not written any self-certified mortgages. Consultants carry out affordability checks during consultations in order to assist customers with getting their financial documents in order before applying for their mortgage."
